Being a mentor is one of the most important things you can do.  Two hours a week can make a big difference in a young person's life.  The application, screening, matching, and training process can easily take up to a month and sometimes longer to complete.  The Colorado Teen Project seeks to ensure the quality of our matches and is concerned with the well being and safety of our clients and volunteers.

Becoming A Mentor

Thank you for your interest in becoming a mentor with The Colorado Teen Project, mentoring youth aging out of foster care in Colorado.  We work to ensure youth in foster care are given the opportunity to be mentored and create lasting relationships within their communities.  We have developed capacity building resources, mentor training materials and mentor recruitment tools to address the unique needs of youth in foster care.

Just remember, becoming a mentor is well worth the effort, so be persistent in your efforts to complete the process, and patient with programs as they work to match you both!  We know the best matches with youth who have experienced difficulty may be with a caring adult who has experienced adversity as well — so be upfront in the screening process and know that your presence and honesty are the best attributes to build trust and longevity.
